The Dixie Sailing Club maintains a yearly schedule of club races, special races such as long distance races, regattas, cruising activities, and special events. Our racing program provides a means for sailors to sharpen their sailing skills, enjoy a competitive environment while sailing and to build camaraderie between the club members. There is an overall Handicap Fleet based on the Portsmouth Yardstick as well as individual fleets currently consisting of Catalina 22, Flying Scot and MC Scow.
Because of our great climate, we have racing activities scheduled from February through November which gives club members numerous opportunities to race, crew and participate on race committee throughout the year. We have Saturday club racing, club and open regattas open to all members, and some of our more active fleets hit the road and travel to other club regattas.
The club schedules racing every Saturday from the start of the racing year in February until early November. Check the club calendar for the details.
Each year the club schedules four regattas, one is an open regatta, for sailors from all over the region, and three are club regattas open only to club members. The open regatta is in the spring, the Punch Bowl and has been held for over 59 consecutive years. Trophies for the regatta are presented to the racers at the conclusion of the event. The three club regattas are the Frostbite Regatta to start the years racing program, in late February. Regattas are also scheduled for Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, and the trophy for the winner of each club regatta is presented at the next Commodore’s Banquet.
Don’t be intimated by that busy start line, we are open to all levels of sailors and want to help you become a better sailor or racer. For more information, please contact us!
