Membership

The Dixie Sailing Club is a great Lake Martin resource. Not only do we have a beautiful setting, our membership contains a wealth of sailing experience (which we are willing to share) and skill sets that can do just about anything that needs to be done to a boat, or to the facilities themselves.  Membership in Dixie Sailing Club is open to all families and individuals interested in sailing.  We offer different membership levels to best match the needs of the member.

Regular Membership

For people 18+ years of age, has a one-time membership fee of $250 ($125 for full-time active duty military) and monthly dues of $60. Regular membership allows you to vote at our annual meeting concerning the club’s future direction, policy changes, expenditures, etc. It also allows you to hold office such as being on the board of directors. You can store a boat in the boat yard or on a mooring, and are expected to be on race committee duty periodically (don’t worry, you won’t be alone and we’ll train you), and to participate on work parties.

Associate Membership

For people 18+ who wish to be involved in club activities and do not currently own or store a boat on club property. Membership fee is 1/3 of the regular fee ($83) and monthly dues are $20. However, you can’t vote on club policies, can’t hold office, and can’t store a boat on club property. You can only be an associate member for two years. You can change to regular membership with the board’s approval and paying the difference between Associate and Regular membership fee. Of course the monthly dues would go up from $20 to $60.

Summer Membership

Open to individuals who own a sailboat at time of application. The period of summer membership is from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. They are permitted to store a boat on club property during that time. They pay regular membership fee and dues but because of the limited time period can not vote or hold office. During the summer period they would be expected to be on race committee and participate on work parties. This membership category can be converted to regular membership at any time by a written request to the board of directors.

The above three membership categories allow the entire family to participate in club activities whereas the next two are for the individual only.

Junior Membership

For persons between 7 and 18 years of age. When at the club they must be supervised by a responsible adult. It’s worth noting that mom and dad can’t show up at the club to use club facilities without junior. The intent of this category is to get kids involved in sailing who hopefully will someday become regular members. Membership fee is $35, monthly dues $5; they can’t vote, can’t hold office, but can store a boat (under 18 feet) at the club. To get them involved in the total sailing club experience, they would be expected to participate on race committees and work parties.

Collegiate Membership

For persons who have attained the age of 18 but not yet 25, who are students at institutions of higher learning and are not yet gainfully employed. Membership fee is ¼ regular fee ($62.50) and monthly dues are $15. They can’t vote or hold office but they can store a boat on club property. They would be expected to participate on race committees and work parties.
