The Introduction To Sailing was a huge success. We had over 85 attending the event. We had a greater participation from the club members this year . Keith did a great job organizing the event.
I noticed the excitement from the small boat storage area. I heard a teenage boy tell his parents that the ride on the sunfish was the “most exciting thing he had ever done”! Jim Garners daughter went home and decided she was repairing their sunfish and would have it ready after the fourth of July. I believe we will have a great youth program! The larger sailboat rides were perfect due to the wind and the members. Families were tense as the boats heeled over and moved across the water. It took no time to travel to the other side of the lake. We had members at the dock answering questions regarding membership and the new member classification may bring in new members. One man said he was going home to look for a sailboat and need information on how to find one. Naturally we told him about Dan’s boat.
The preparation for the event started back in January and many members helped at different times. The last two weeks were hot and humid to say the least. A few wonderful members were there to help with the final touches for the event. I am not going to list names for you know who you are and will simply say thank you for all the hard work and sacrifice of your time.
We put coleslaw out for the hot dog topping and many were using the coleslaw as a side item. More coleslaw for next year!
We know members were not able to be there due to other commitments. We know your hearts were with us, but I must say you missed out on great event!
Please send suggestions for next year to Ron Dettwiler while there are fresh in your mind.
Happy Father’s Day and thank you for an exciting day on the lake. When I left, the trash was in the barrel, the sun was setting and everyone had left for home. As I looked back I remembered what the site looked like the first time we came over to view the property. What a change a couple of years make in the life of a sail club.
