Why Race?
- Why should I race?
Its fun and it will improve your sailing skills. You can learn more about sailing in one weekend of racing than a month of cruising. We have nationally ranked racers participating in our program, so you have a wealth of knowledge to draw from (as well as excellent competition). We have great fellowship and always sit around after the races and talk about what worked, what didn’t work and why. The skills you learn here you can take to any regatta at any club.
- I don’t know anything about racing.
Neither did anyone else who raced for the first time. We even have a few participants that still don’t seem to know anything about racing (which side is port?), but they love to be out there competing and honing their skills. Plus this is a very open group that really wants to help each other out, so you would get plenty of help and instruction if needed.
- I don’t have a boat to race.
We currently have 4 fleets, Catalina 22, Flying Scot, MC-Scow and Open, so there is something for everyone. There are a number of these boats for sale in our own club. Also, there are a number of members who would love to have some crew, so if you want to participate, but not skipper, let us know, we can get you on a boat.
- I still don’t want to race, but I would love to help, what can I do?
There are lots of ways to support the racing program and your club. One is to show up and perform your Race Committee assignments, but another would be just to get your boat out there on Race Days and sail. Even if you don’t race, support DSC by sailing.
If you are interested or have any questions about the DSC racing program, send us an email. We look forward to seeing you on the water!
