A NEW Racing Circuit in Region 3 for 2010
Five Fleets Emphasizing Attending Five Regattas
Using the concept that if it works well for others maybe it would work here too - in Region 8 they have the Texas Circuit which entails certain clubs agreeing to support certain regattas that occur during the year. Check out MainBrace for March 2009, page 16 for the concept. In Region 3 there is already a Florida Circuit. And now, five fleets in Region 3, have agreed to support five of the regattas scheduled to occur in Region 3 in 2010. As always, ALL the regattas in Region 3 are open to ALL fleets and ALL racers! The GRITS 2010 circuit is just an effort to make sure that for 5 of the regattas scheduled in Region 3 in 2010 the members of the five fleets will try to be there along with all the rest of the regions racers! After each regatta is over, the GRITS scorekeeper will use the overall regatta results to determine for racers entered in GRITS 2010 their standings in the GRITS 2010 circuit.
The five fleets that have formed the circuit are: Fleet 52, Nashville, TN; Fleet 58, Lake Lanier, GA; Fleet 95, Chattanooga, TN; Fleet 96, Lake Martin, AL; and Fleet 134, Leesburg, AL. In the list of 15 regattas in the region in 2010 each of the five fleets has one or more regattas scheduled. Sign up to compete in the GRITS 2010 Circuit can be done any time before the first GRITS event by sending a note to scorer Dick Cline at region3guy@aol.com so that the spread sheet for keeping GRITS 2010 results is ready when the circuit starts! For those in the GRITS 2010 circuit, there will be awards for top Gold Fleet racer, top Silver Fleet racer, plus Fleet of the Year award, after the final GRITS 2010 regatta, which is NOT the final regatta in Region 3 for 2010!! Gold and Silver Fleet winners will be based on “best three” total score. Race in 4 of the regattas, one throw out. Race in all 5, two throw outs. For GRITS racers, first GRITS place (you might finish in any place in the regatta, but still be the highest finishing GRITS racer) in each regatta, 30 points. Second place, 29... you get the idea. High GRITS point total for 3 regattas wins the award. A list of who has signed up will be posted on our special web site!! And as the year progresses, the site will have standings and photos from the regattas. Keep up to date on all things GRITS 2010 by using the special web site just for us - http://usawaterways.com/GRITS.
If you are an individual in Region 3 but not in one of the five fleets and you want to commit to race in GRITS 2010 send a note to the scorer saying you want in on the circuit, and then show up for at least 3 of the 5 regattas in the GRITS 2010 circuit.! You clearly cannot compete for the Fleet of the Year award, but can compete for the individual awards.
See ya at Lake Martin, AL for the Region 3 Championships (GRITS 2010 event 1) on March 20!!
